Northern State Medical University (NSMU)

Northern State Medical University (NSMU) in Arkhangelsk holds two distinctions that together define its institutional identity: it is the only medical education provider in Russia's northernmost region, and it is one of Russia's oldest medical universities, founded in 1932 as Arkhangelsk State Medical Institute. These facts are not merely biographical; they reflect a geographic necessity. Annual tuition is approximately USD 5,000, with total 6-year costs of approximately USD 30,000, inclusive of hostel and insurance. The FMGE 2021 pass rate was 26.02% among 269 appearing students, reflecting the genuine challenge of the NExT/FMGE examination for all foreign MBBS graduates, and NSMU uses this data point to actively coach students from the early years.
