As a new college, the campus infrastructure is modern and developing.

• Location: The main campus is located at Handwara, Kupwara District, J&K.

• Campus Vibe: The campus is substantial, featuring modern academic blocks, a teaching hospital, and residential quarters, reflecting significant government investment in new infrastructure in a geographically significant region.

• Infrastructure & Facilities:

• Academic Blocks: Features modern, well-equipped lecture halls, demonstration rooms, and examination halls.

• Laboratories: Equipped with new, state-of-the-art labs for all pre-clinical and para-clinical departments (Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, etc.) built to NMC standards.

• Library: A central library provides students access to necessary medical collections.

Residential Life: Separate hostel facilities are provided on campus for boys and girls (UGs).

Healthcare Pillar: Associate Hospital

The college is attached to the main government hospital in the district, which serves as its teaching facility.

• Flagship Hospital: The Associate Hospital (District Hospital Handwara) is the primary constituent teaching hospital for GMC Handwara.

• Scale & Services: This is a major tertiary care referral hospital for the Kupwara region.

• Capacity: A large hospital with 300+ beds.

• Services: Provides comprehensive healthcare services across all major clinical specialties, including General Medicine, General Surgery, OBG, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Radiology, and Anaesthesiology. It features 24x7 Emergency, Trauma, and Critical Care (ICUs), and modern Operation Theatres.

• Educational Engine: The Associate Hospital is the core clinical training ground for MBBS students, offering high-volume patient exposure crucial for medical training.

Fee Structure: Government Subsidized

As a state government medical college, the fees are extremely low and set by the Government of J&K.

Campus Living: Hostel Facilities

• Accommodation: Separate hostel blocks are available for male and female students. Accommodation is generally available for all students.

• Amenities: Hostels are new, well-maintained, and equipped with basic furnishings.

• Dining: Mess facilities are available for all hostellers.

• Cost: Hostel and mess fees are additional to the tuition fees but are highly economical.

• Hostel Fee (Annual): Nominal (e.g., ~ ₹5,000 - ₹10,000).

• Mess Charges (Monthly): Paid monthly based on actual expenses, typically ranging from ~₹3,500 to ₹4,500 per month.

Admissions Process: NEET & State Counselling (J&K)

• Getting Admitted (MBBS): Admission is strictly and exclusively based on qualifying ranks in NEET-UG.

• State Counselling is Key (J&K): Seat allotment for all categories (Open Merit, Reserved Categories, and All India Quota) is handled entirely through the J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (J&K BOPEE) centralized counselling process.

• 15% All India Quota (AIQ): Seats are filled through the MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) counselling, open to students from all over India.

• 85% State Quota: Seats are reserved for students with J&K domicile and are filled through the J&K BOPEE state counselling.

Career Pathways & Placements

• Career Path: As a new government medical college, the career path for graduates is excellent.

• Internship: MBBS graduates complete a mandatory 1-year rotatory internship at the Associate Hospital, Handwara, for which they receive a competitive stipend as per UT Administration norms.

• Bond: A service bond may be required for PG graduates.

• Post-Graduation: Graduates will be eligible to appear for the NEET-PG exam to pursue postgraduate specialization (MD/MS) or can become Medical Officers in the state health service.
