Adana is in the southern part of Turkey, on the Seyhan River, not far from the Mediterranean Sea. Because it is in the middle of the very fertile Çukurova plain, it is one of the biggest and most agriculturally productive towns in Turkey. The Faculty of Medicine at the Turkish University of Health Sciences, or SBÜ, is in this building. This is one of many sites that the university runs across the country. In Adana, this means that students can go to a university that was made to teach health instead of a general university with a medical school.
In Turkey, college is not at all like it is in other countries, but the University of Health Sciences is truly unique. It wasn't built on top of an older university, like most medical schools in Turkey. In fact, it was a public university built around a network of teaching and study hospitals run by the Ministry of Health. It is structurally different because, like the one in Adana, its faculties are deeply connected to a network of major training and research hospitals across the country. Not only that, but it's not tied to just one teaching hospital in one place.
The normal way for Turkey to set up a Tıp Fakültesi is to teach doctors at the Adana Faculty of Medicine. The plan lasts for six years and has only one round. Students don't take a break between high school and college or higher education. There is only one degree they can get to study medicine. Schools of medicine in Turkey and most of Europe teach in this way. After graduating, you can call yourself a doctor and take Turkey's national TUS residency test to learn more about how to become a specialist doctor. To work as a doctor somewhere else in the future, you can also try to get licenses in other countries.
The course has a clear, step-by-step plan. Some of the basic sciences that students learn in their first few years are biology, chemistry, anatomy, and histology. They teach students the science that will help them become doctors. They will learn more about general medicine, pathology, pharmacology, and other things that are useful in real life over the next few years. A few years ago, they did full clinical rotations in all the main areas. In their last few years, students go right to hospital rooms to work with supervised patients in fields like surgery, internal medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and more.
Practical training takes place at hospitals in Adana that are run by the city's Ministry of Health. The largest of these is the Adana City Training and Study Hospital. It was made so that people could get medical care, learn in a classroom, and study in a planned way. You can find universities like this one all over the country. They are set up so that they are close to a major public teaching hospital. As soon as possible, it gives students practice in a real, busy city setting.
Many students who are interested in this school are not from Turkey. For those students, the language used in lessons is very important. The Adana Faculty of Medicine is a public university that was built around Turkey's health care system. When it comes to medicine, it is mostly taught in Turkish. You should talk to the university directly to find out if this school has a special English-language track for medical students from other countries. This information can be very different from one school at the University of Health Sciences to the next and from one year to the next. Anyone who doesn't understand Turkish well should work on that right away, before they decide if this school is right for them.
It is generally not the same for Turkish students who want to go to public universities in Turkey as it is for foreign students. This is not the same as the main test that Turkish people take. To get into many colleges in Turkey, students from outside of Turkey have to take the YÖS exam. People who want to apply but are not from Turkey must take this test. Also, they should have done well in science class in high school. What do you need to do right now to get into the Adana Faculty of Medicine? You should talk to the university's office for international students. Make sure they accept YÖS or other credentials like SAT scores. You should also find out if international students can even come to this campus that year.
It is the same at the University of Health Sciences Adana campus as it is at the main site. They were not meant to have their own medical centre; instead, they were designed to work closely with a big state teaching hospital. In a big, busy hospital, this lets students go straight to the many offices, testing tools, and patients. They can also study and learn new skills in college before going to a clinic.
People from outside of Turkey pay the same amount to study at the University of Health Sciences as they do at other public universities in Turkey. It's a lot less than what medical schools in the US or Europe charge. Along with that, it costs less than what private universities in Turkey charge. Right now, you should call the university to find out how much it really costs to go to the Adana Faculty of Medicine. Students from outside of Turkey pay different amounts of money to attend a public university. The amounts depend on where they come from, which campus they apply to, and the year they apply.
Turkey's national medical education system is run by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) and the Turkish Medical Association. This degree is valid because it follows their rules. Grads who want to work in other countries should find out how to get a license and be accepted there. The National Medical Commission can tell an Indian medical student what the rules are right now if they want to go back home after they graduate. Foreign doctors who want to work in India must first pass either the FMGE or NExT exam. It doesn't matter where they got their medical degree.
Living in Adana is like living in a big, warm city full of farms in the south of Turkey. Adana is popular with tourists because it is close to the Mediterranean Sea, has tasty hot kebabs, and is on the rich Çukurova plain. It's easy to get around this big city in Turkey. Also, it's cheaper to live there than in Istanbul or Ankara. It gets hot in the summer and not too cold in the winter because the city is close to the Med. The coolest places we've talked about so far are in the middle or Black Sea parts of Turkey. These places are very different from those.
There is only one other public medical school in Turkey that is like the Adana Faculty of Medicine at the University of Health Sciences. The campus isn't like most; it's built around a big group of public hospitals. This means that teens and young adults in Turkey can go to medical school through a university. They can only do this if they know a lot about Turkey or can get official permission from the school to do what they need to do. It's possible for the language taught, the number of spots for international students, and the fees to vary from campus to campus and from year to year. Before you apply, you should still get straight, up-to-date information from the university's international office.
