The University and What Makes It Different
Central Asian Medical University (CAMU, often written CAMUF) is a private medical institution in Fergana city, in Uzbekistan's Fergana Valley, roughly 420 km east of Tashkent. Its own licensing record, granted by Uzbekistan's State Inspectorate for Quality Control of Education under license number 037700 on 6 September 2022, is the clearest anchor point for its actual founding, and it matters because agent pages disagree sharply on CAMU's history. One consultancy page describes it as founded in 2005 by a named Uzbek cardiologist, crediting it with WHO recognition in 2007 and Medical Council of India recognition in 2011; that account doesn't reconcile with the university's own 2022 operating license, and should be treated as unverified rather than repeated. CAMU markets itself, more plausibly, as the first medical university established in the Ferghana Valley specifically, which is consistent with a 2022 start.
A second, separate discrepancy worth flagging directly: at least one agent page places CAMU in Andijan rather than Fergana. The university's own two campus buildings, one for theoretical training and one for medical practical training, are both documented at Fergana city addresses (Marifat Street and a second site off Sanoat Street), and its Facebook presence and business registry both list it in Fergana. Andijan has its own long-established institution, Andijan State Medical Institute (founded 1955), and the two shouldn't be confused when comparing options.
Scale and Infrastructure
As a newly licensed private university, CAMU's scale is modest: publicly available figures cite around 41 professors and 14 administrative/technical staff, of whom roughly a quarter hold a doctor-of-science or PhD-level qualification. The university has documented recent investment in teaching materials and equipment, including textbooks, an interactive anatomical model, and general laboratory equipment, consistent with a young institution still building out its base infrastructure rather than one operating at the scale of Uzbekistan's older state medical institutes.
Course Structure and Duration
The programme follows Uzbekistan's standard MD-equivalent structure: approximately 5 years of theoretical and clinical coursework followed by a 1-year compulsory internship, six years total, taught in English for the international cohort.
Admission Process
Admission is document-based: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, plus NEET qualification for Indian applicants under NMC's FMGL regulations. Before travelling to Uzbekistan, NMC requires an Eligibility Certificate based on the NEET scorecard and admission letter; after graduation, students need a Screening Test Eligibility Certificate before sitting NExT (or currently, FMGE).
