Gulistan State Medical University is a government medical institution located in Gulistan, the capital of Syrdarya region in central Uzbekistan. As one of the newer entries into Uzbekistan's medical education landscape for international students, Gulistan offers an English-medium MD programme (MBBS equivalent) at some of the lowest fee levels available among recognised Uzbek universities. The city of Gulistan is relatively compact and affordable, situated approximately two hours' drive from Tashkent, giving students reasonable access to the capital's services and connectivity. The MD programme runs over six years in English for international students, following Uzbekistan's standard 5+1 structure of academic study and mandatory hospital internship. The curriculum covers all required medical disciplines as prescribed by Uzbekistan's Ministry of Higher Education and aligned with international requirements for WDOMS listing and NMC recognition. Clinical training is provided at affiliated regional hospitals in Syrdarya, with access to Tashkent facilities for specialist rotations. Gulistan State Medical University is recognised by the NMC of India and WHO, and is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools. For Indian students, this recognition means graduates are eligible to sit for the NExT examination upon returning to India, subject to compliance with FMGL Regulations 2021 — completing a minimum of 54 months at a single institution and a 12-month internship at the same university. The university provides hostel accommodation for international students with Indian food options, internet access, and security facilities. Its relatively small cohort of international students can provide a more personalised academic environment than the larger, more densely populated institutions in Tashkent or Samarkand. For students who want a quieter study environment and the lowest possible cost consistent with NMC recognition, Gulistan represents a practical option. Students considering Gulistan should conduct thorough due diligence on current enrolment procedures, NMC compliance verification, and institutional infrastructure, given that it is a smaller and less internationally profiled institution than the more established Uzbek universities. Consulting the official NMC website and Indian Embassy in Tashkent for current status is strongly recommended.
