People usually just call it Medipol for short. Unlike many older European medical schools covered in guides like this one, Medipol is genuinely young. It was established in 2009 by the Turkey Education, Health, and Research Foundation. It took in its first students in 2010. So this is a private university built from scratch this century, not an old public faculty that only recently added an English track.

Here is the fact that sets Medipol apart from many other Turkish options for Indian students. Its International School of Medicine, known as ISM, has taught its full six-year MD programme entirely in English from the start. There is also a separate bilingual track, taught 30% in English and 70% in Turkish. The International School of Medicine itself runs completely in English. The one exception is a compulsory preparatory year for students who cannot already prove proficiency. So, unlike Dokuz Eylül's brand-new English track, Medipol's English-medium medical programme already has years of history and graduates behind it.

Recognition here is solid too. Medipol's medical school appears in the World Directory of Medical Schools, known as WDOMS. This is the prerequisite listing needed for ECFMG eligibility and the US licensing pathway. The programme has also been accredited by TEPDAD, the Turkish body responsible for evaluating and accrediting medical education programmes. Clinical training happens through the JCI-accredited Mega University Hospital complex, one of Turkey's largest private hospital networks. So an Indian applicant is looking at an internationally recognised, English-medium medical degree, not an unproven pilot programme.

Cost is where Medipol genuinely stands apart from most other Turkish medical schools, though, and not in a cheap direction. For the 2026-2027 academic intake, Istanbul Medipol University's official published fee for the fully English-taught School of Medicine is USD 40,000 per year. Over a full six-year MD, that comes to USD 240,000 in tuition alone. This is before living costs. It is also before any compulsory English preparatory year, which itself costs USD 17,000 for Medicine and Dentistry applicants who need it. This makes Medipol one of the pricier English-medium medical options in Turkey. It sits well above many public Turkish universities, and above several other private options too.

There is real relief built into that headline figure, though, and it applies specifically to Indian applicants. Medipol runs a Special Country Scholarship. It offers a 15 percent discount on tuition to students from a defined list of nationalities, and India is explicitly named on that list. This discount can also be combined with other scholarships. These include a further discount for a strong SAT score, or for paying the full year's tuition in one lump sum in advance. So the effective cost for an Indian student willing to plan ahead can end up meaningfully lower than the USD 40,000 headline figure. It is still far from the cheapest MBBS-abroad option available.

Admission itself is more relaxed than many applicants expect. Most private Turkish medical schools, Medipol included, do not require a separate entrance exam like the YÖS or SAT for admission itself. A strong SAT score can still unlock scholarship money. Instead, admission rests mainly on a completed high school diploma with a solid academic record. Competitive Medicine applications generally sit around 70 percent or higher. Applicants also need proof of English proficiency through TOEFL, IELTS, or Medipol's own placement exam. Applicants who cannot yet prove proficiency complete a compulsory one-year English preparatory programme before starting Year 1 of the medical course itself.

The six-year MD curriculum itself follows an integrated, student-centred model. Basic sciences and clinical sciences are woven together from early on, rather than kept strictly separate. Students begin structured research work in their very first year. They present and publish results by the end of their third year. Clinical exposure starts earlier than at many traditional medical schools too. Students get one-on-one training alongside faculty members in outpatient and inpatient clinics, operating rooms, and emergency and intensive care units. It is not saved almost entirely for the final years.

Location is worth understanding honestly as well. Medipol's main campuses for international students sit at Kavacık, on the Asian side of Istanbul, in the Beykoz district. This includes its libraries and much of its teaching space. Clinical training, though, happens largely through the Mega Hospital complex, which sits on Istanbul's European side. So students do commute across the Bosphorus at various points in their training. This is a normal part of daily life in a city that straddles two continents. Still, it is worth knowing about in advance rather than discovering later.

One point applies regardless of which Turkish university an Indian student eventually chooses, and Medipol is no exception here. India's own National Medical Commission still requires a valid, qualifying NEET score for any Indian student pursuing a medical degree abroad, Medipol included. Graduates still need to clear the FMGE or NExT exam to practise medicine back in India afterwards. Neither requirement changes just because a specific university offers a well-established, internationally recognised English programme.

Why Medipol Deserves A Closer Look, Cost Included

Most guides either list Medipol's headline fee without mentioning the scholarships that can reduce it, or they mention the scholarships without naming which nationalities actually qualify. Neither approach is fully honest. The reason is simple. Medipol's own official 2026-2027 fee list confirms the USD 40,000 headline rate for the fully English School of Medicine. It also confirms a specific 15 percent Special Country Scholarship that names India directly among the eligible nationalities.

This matters because the real, effective cost for an Indian applicant can differ meaningfully from the number most guides quote. Combining the Special Country Scholarship with a lump sum payment discount can cut the yearly fee by a real margin. So can a strong SAT score under Medipol's own scholarship table. This is not a hidden trick. Medipol's own tuition fee page states it plainly. It simply requires reading past the single headline number most other sources repeat.

The maturity of the English programme deserves honest emphasis too, especially next to newer options elsewhere in Turkey. Medipol's International School of Medicine already appears in the World Directory of Medical Schools. It already holds TEPDAD accreditation, and already trains students through a JCI-accredited hospital network. This is a genuinely different proposition from a brand-new English track with no graduates yet.

One thing most guides skip entirely is the geography. Teaching happens on the Asian side of Istanbul, at Kavacık. Major clinical training happens through the Mega Hospital complex, on the European side. This cross-city rhythm is completely normal for Istanbul. Still, an applicant comparing MBBS-abroad options on a map should understand it before arriving, not after.
