Andijan State Medical University is a government medical institution located in Andijan — the largest city in the Fergana Valley and one of the oldest and most historically significant cities in Central Asia. Situated in the easternmost corner of Uzbekistan, close to the borders of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, Andijan has a rich cultural heritage as a key stop on the ancient Silk Road and the birthplace of Zahiruddin Muhammad Babur, founder of the Mughal Empire. The MD programme at Andijan runs over six years in English for international students, structured as five years of academic and clinical study followed by a mandatory one-year hospital internship at affiliated regional hospitals. The university offers a merit-based scholarship programme for international students — an unusual feature that can significantly reduce the cost of study for high-performing candidates. The scholarship covers partial to substantial tuition fee waivers for students who demonstrate strong academic performance. Andijan State Medical University is recognised by the NMC of India, WHO, and is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools. It appears consistently in international listings of recognised Uzbek medical institutions, including FAIMER's IMED directory. The university's clinical training draws on the facilities of Andijan regional hospitals, covering all core medical specialties. The Fergana Valley setting gives Andijan a warm, agreeable climate similar to parts of Punjab and UP in India — one of the most climatically familiar environments for Indian students among all Central Asian study destinations. The valley's dense population and fertility also mean fresh produce is abundant and affordable. Living costs in Andijan are among the lowest of any university city in Uzbekistan. Students selecting Andijan State Medical University should, as with all Uzbek institutions, verify current FMGL Regulations 2021 compliance with the NMC before applying, given the multiple advisories the Commission has issued regarding Uzbek universities in recent years. Subject to this verification, Andijan combines cultural richness, affordable fees, scholarship availability, and a familiar climate in a package that has consistently attracted a significant cohort of Indian students.
