Jalalabad State University, established by Presidential Decree on 2nd April 1993, is a state university. Jalalabad State University is one of the early government universities established after the country gained independence. Jalalabad State University is situated in Jalalabad, the capital of Jalalabad province. Currently, Jalalabad State University has evolved from a medical training institute into a comprehensive multidisciplinary university offering courses in medicine, engineering, law, and Agro-Industrial Studies. Additionally, the faculty of medicine, founded in 1994, is the main program for international students.
JASU is among the top five medical universities in Kyrgyzstan. Presently, JASU has about 4,500 students across all its programs, with about 1,000 Indian students pursuing the English-medium MBBS program. It has the largest Indian student population in southern Kyrgyzstan, except at Osh State Medical University. It also has more than 300 Indian faculty members. This helps ease the adjustment period for Indian students going abroad and reduces academic stress. Jalabad State University is government-funded and administered by the Ministry of Health, Education, and Science of Kyrgyzstan. In the 6-year MBBS program, there are 5 years of academic and practical medical studies, along with 1 year of clinical internship in a hospital. There are eight affiliated teaching hospitals at Jalabad State Medical University, where clinical rotations begin under the guidance of clinically experienced physicians.
The entire curriculum is in English and follows the classic Kyrgyzstani system in accordance with the standards of the National Medical Commission for foreign medical graduates. Jasu is approved by the NMC of India, WHO, IMED (International Medical Education Directory), and also included in WDOMS (World Directory of Medical Schools). The campus of Jalabad State University has modern infrastructure that has been renovated and expanded recently due to an increased number of international students. In addition, the new campus with modern facilities has been added to accommodate the recent influx of students.
The campus provides Indian mess facilities with separate male and female hostels having 24 hours CCTV and security, WI-FI facility and cricket and sports ground where the annual cricket and other sports tournament takes place regularly in Jalalabad State Medical University academic calendar, which is the indication of the strong Indian community culture present in JASU. Also, the 6-year MBBS fees for 2026 session at JASU is around 24 Lakh, which makes it the most competitive government university of Kyrgyzstan. The climate of Jalalabad city is warm in summers and mild in winters. The established Indian peer network and the credibility of the Government university make JASU one of the most sought after medical universities for MBBS in Kyrgyzstan.

Yes. JASU is approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC, India) and is WHO-listed and WDOMS-verified. Indian graduates who complete the 6-year programme (5 years of academics + 1 year of mandatory internship at JASU) are eligible to appear for NExT in India. Always verify the current listing at wdoms.org at the time of admission.
At ₹97/USD, the total 6-year all-in cost (tuition + hostel + food + living + visa + one-time costs) is approximately ₹22–28 Lakhs, depending on lifestyle. Annual tuition is USD 4,200. Hostel is USD 600/year (₹58,200/year). Some sources quote ₹25.11 Lakhs as the “total fee”; this covers tuition, hostel, and mess for 6 years; personal expenses, visa, and travel are additional.
NBEMS does not publish JASU-specific university-level FMGE data separately. Based on Kyrgyzstan’s aggregate FMGE 2025 data and structural comparison with KRSU (28.95%) and KSMA (25.51%), JASU students are estimated to perform in the 21.5% range. Students choosing JASU must compensate by undertaking more rigorous self-directed NExT preparation from Year 1 than students at KRSU do.
6 years total with 5 years of academic and clinical study (satisfying NMC’s 54-month minimum) plus 1 year of mandatory rotating internship at JASU’s affiliated teaching hospital in Kyrgyzstan. The internship cannot be transferred to India and must be completed at JASU before becoming eligible for NExT.
Yes, with all academics, lectures, labs, and examinations for the General Medicine (MBBS) programme for international students are conducted in English. Indian medical textbooks (Guyton, Robbins, Harrison, Tripathi, Dutta) are available in the university library. Hospital and clinical interactions from Year 4 onward involve Kyrgyz and Russian-speaking patients, and basic clinical language proficiency is important for clinical years.
All international students must register their migration card with the local Kyrgyz authority within 5 days of arrival in the country. JASU’s international student office assists with this registration process. Missing the 5-day window creates legal complications.
