Most pages built around Bangladesh MBBS lump every college into one big private-fee-heavy list. Jashore Medical College doesn't belong in that pile it's a government college, and that one fact changes almost everything about how you should evaluate it.
JMC sits at Horinar Beel, near the Chanchra New Bus Terminal in Jashore district, part of Bangladesh's Khulna Division. It opened in 2010 as Jessore Medical College the district's name was later restyled 'Jashore' in official use, and the college's spelling followed. If you find older admission material still using 'Jessore,' that's not a different institution, just the pre-rename name.
Being a public college run under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), JMC's local admission seats go to Bangladeshi students through the government's centralised medical admission test 100 seats a year, no separate entrance exam for the college itself. Foreign applicants, including Indians, come in through a distinct international/SAARC quota rather than competing for those local seats.
The academic and examination affiliation has actually changed recently, and most existing blogs haven't caught up: JMC's professional exams used to run under Sheikh Hasina Medical University, Khulna. That university was renamed Khulna Medical University in 2025. If a page you're reading still only mentions 'Sheikh Hasina Medical University' with no note about the rename, it's working off outdated information.
Clinical training happens at Jashore Medical College Hospital, formerly Jessore 250-Bed General Hospital, now grown into one of the larger teaching hospitals in southern Bangladesh with 17 operation theatres and dedicated cancer, urology, and radiotherapy units alongside the general wards. For a district-level government hospital, that's a genuinely heavy clinical caseload for students to work through.
One mix-up worth clearing up before you go further: search results for 'medical college Jashore' also throw up Army Medical College Jashore (AMCJ). That's a completely separate institution, run under a different trust structure with its own fee scale and admission route. If a consultant quotes you AMCJ's fees while discussing JMC, or the reverse, you're being given the wrong number for the wrong college.
Fee Breakdown — Full MBBS Course
This is where JMC diverges sharply from the private colleges dominating most Bangladesh MBBS comparisons. As a government institution, its foreign-quota fee structure is set by DGHS policy rather than a college-set private package, and it runs noticeably lower than the USD 40,000–47,000 private-college range you'll see elsewhere. Treat the figures below as indicative get the current DGHS foreign-quota circular or the college's own confirmation before paying anything.
Cost Item | Per Year (approx.) | Course Total (INR approx.) |
Tuition Fee (Foreign/SAARC quota) | USD ~3,000–4,500 | INR ~14,00,000–19,00,000 |
Registration & Migration Charges | One-time | INR ~1,00,000–1,50,000 |
Hostel Fee | Low government-subsidised | INR ~1,50,000–2,00,000 |
Food & Mess | INR 45,000–65,000 | INR ~2,25,000–3,25,000 |
Books & Study Material | INR 12,000–18,000 | INR ~60,000–90,000 |
Travel (India–Bangladesh) | Low-cost flights via Kolkata/Dhaka | INR ~25,000–45,000 total |
Other / Miscellaneous | INR 10,000–15,000 | INR ~50,000–75,000 |
Donation / Capitation | None | NIL |
Total Estimated (5 yrs + internship) | $45,000 to $47,000 USD | INR ~23–32 lakh approx. |
A caution most pages skip entirely: because JMC is a public college, its foreign-student fee isn't a fixed marketing number the way private colleges publish one. It's tied to government policy and can shift between admission cycles. Some older listings quote figures as high as INR 40 lakh by simply reusing private-college averages that's not JMC-specific data, and you should discount it accordingly.
What Most Pages Get Wrong About Jashore Medical College
Ranking numbers are the biggest offender. You'll see JMC listed as '18th nationally' or '15,207th globally' on aggregator sites these come from generic university-ranking crawlers that treat a mid-sized government medical college the same way they'd treat a research university, using metrics like web presence rather than anything relevant to MBBS training quality. Take any such number as noise, not signal.
Second, the Rajshahi University affiliation you'll still see mentioned on some pages is legacy information professional exams and academic supervision moved to Sheikh Hasina Medical University, Khulna some years back, and that university itself was renamed Khulna Medical University in 2025. A page that hasn't updated past 'Rajshahi University' is working from data that's several admission cycles stale.
Third, almost nobody separates JMC from Army Medical College Jashore in their write-ups, even though the two sit in the same district with completely different management, fee structures, and admission routes. Confusing the two is the single most common error in this niche's content, and it directly costs applicants money when they act on the wrong fee quote.
What genuinely deserves more attention than it gets: the attached hospital's surgical capacity. Seventeen operation theatres and dedicated oncology, urology, and radiotherapy departments is a substantial caseload for a district-level teaching hospital, and it's the kind of detail that actually predicts how much hands-on exposure a student gets far more than a vague 'globally ranked' badge borrowed from an unrelated ranking system.

DGME publishes the foreign-student MBBS/BDS admission circular for the upcoming session, usually around November, separately for SAARC/non-SAARC applicants and government/private colleges.
• Confirm your PCB percentage/GPA and NEET status against the circular's stated minimums. • Gather passport, academic transcripts, NEET scorecard, birth certificate, medical fitness certificate, and other listed documents, with mandatory two-step attestation.
• Shortlist government and/or private colleges based on budget, GPA/NEET strength, and location preference, comparing on recognition status and FMGE track record, not just the lowest fee. • Register on DGME's foreign-student portal, fill in details, and upload documents.
Pay the standard equivalence-certification fee (commonly around USD 100) via bank transfer (TT/SWIFT), not cash.
DGME evaluates your academic equivalence against Bangladeshi grading standards.
• Based on merit, quota category (SAARC/non-SAARC/reserved), and seat availability. • Receive a formal offer/admission letter from the allocated college.
Pay the first-installment tuition and hostel fee, per the college's own schedule.
• Apply at the Bangladesh High Commission/Mission with the admission letter and financial proof; realistic processing time varies by season. • In the final weeks, finalize documents, arrange travel/health insurance, book flights, and confirm hostel allotment in writing.
