Bangladesh is right next to India. So, it is the closest MBBS country for Indian students. No other MBBS abroad option is this accessible. Students from West Bengal can reach Dhaka in under 2 hours. Moreover, students from Bihar, Assam, and the Northeast save even more time than those going to other destinations abroad. In fact, many students reach their college in Bangladesh faster than they can reach Delhi.
The food here is similar to that in India. The climate is similar as well. So, students feel at home from Day 1. The cultural shock is very minimal. There is no struggle for food and meal choices. Also, the Bengali language instantly connects students from West Bengal. Furthermore, large Indian student communities exist in Dhaka, Sylhet, and Mymensingh. So, settling in is relatively easy for students from India.
Bangladesh has over 100 medical colleges in total. However, only 25+ of them are NMC listed. So, always check nmc.org.in before students select a university. These NMC-Listed universities are tied to public universities. For example, Bangladesh Medical College is affiliated with the University of Dhaka. So, the degree has government university backing. Moreover, teaching hospitals here have 500 to 1,000 beds. Therefore, clinical exposure starts early.
The MBBS course in Bangladesh runs for 5 years. After that, a 1-year internship is mandatory. So, the total is 6 years, the same as in India. Moreover, the Bangladesh BMDC curriculum maps closely to the NMC India syllabus. Because of this, students are already preparing for FMGE from Year 1. They do not even realise it. Also, this is the reason the Bangladesh FMGE results are strong.
Bangladesh ranked 2nd worldwide in the December 2025 FMGE session. The national pass rate was 34.45%. However, that is just the national average. Top colleges do much better. For example, Jahurul Islam Medical College posted 69%, and Bangladesh Medical College posted 66%. No Russian, Chinese, or Kyrgyzstan college comes close to this. So, Bangladesh is the smart choice for students focused on practising in India. Also, none of our competitors mentions these exact college-wise FMGE numbers. We do.
Now, there is a single process that gets overlooked. It is called the DGME process. DGME stands for the Directorate General of Medical Education. Every Indian student must apply on the DGME portal at foreignstudents.dgme.gov.bd. You also pay a USD 100 fee via TT transfer to get your equivalence certificate. However, this is not a hurdle. In fact, it protects you. Because DGME is government-run, fake colleges cannot trap students. So, the DGME process is your safety net.
The 2024 political crisis in Bangladesh is something most consultants avoid talking about. But we will tell you honestly. In July 2024, over 4,500 Indian students had to leave Bangladesh. Most came back in a few months. As of 2026, classes are running normally under the new interim government. However, political risk in Bangladesh is real. So, register with the Indian High Commission in Dhaka on arrival. Also, colleges in Sylhet and Chittagong are safer than central Dhaka. So, it is advisable to choose wisely.
Finally, the cost is hard to beat. Total fees at private colleges run from INR 27 to 45 Lakhs for 5 years. That is far cheaper than Indian private medical colleges. Moreover, no donation or capitation fee is required. SAARC quota seats in government colleges offer near-free tuition. However, only 125 seats are available to all international students. So, competition there is very high. But at private colleges, a student with 350+ NEET and a good GPA has a solid shot. Also, our team can help you choose the right college based on your score and budget.
