Q1. Is Monowara Sikder Medical College a government or private institution?
+It is a private medical college, approved by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Bangladesh.
In the case of Bangladeshi MBBS, most of the consultants would start with popular colleges in Dhaka city, and Monowara Sikder College won't make it into their top five. Monowara Sikder is a small private college, but it has the same recognition chain as all other. University of Dhaka affiliation and BMDC approval as all other Bangladeshi colleges, which is essential for further FMGE/NExT registration for Indian students.
This college was established in 2015 following the approval received from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Bangladesh. Monowara Sikder College is located in the town of Madhupur, in Bhedergonj upazila of Shariatpur district, which is part of the Dhaka division, but it is a less congested area than areas where medical colleges are located in Dhaka city.
The teaching hospital associated with Monowara Sikder College has 250 beds and was set up specifically for poor people of the Shariatpur district. This means that students would get exposure to real patients, not to demonstration wards.
Monowara Sikder, being a private college in a rural location, is less known than other medical colleges and would not have the budget for promotion like those colleges located in Dhaka city. However, it also means that seats might be easier to find and that the fee structure, even though not publicized, would be quite affordable in comparison to well-known private colleges.
Hostel facilities for international students are also located on campus, and, as consultants working with Monowara Sikder mentioned, Indian-style food is provided in hostels. So, first-year would be easier for Indian students.
Just like other private Bangladeshi colleges, except for a few famous institutions, there is no publicly available information regarding the yearly fee structure. Therefore, any fees number mentioned by a consultant needs to be verified with college administration.
Here is the approximate cost breakdown for the 6-year program, based on current consultancy-reported figures:
Cost Item | Per Year (USD / INR approx.) | 6-Year Total (INR approx.) |
Tuition Fee | USD 6,500–7,500, approx. INR 5.4–6.3 lakh | INR 32–38 lakh |
Hostel Fee | Approx. INR 50,000–75,000 | INR 3–4.5 lakh |
Food & Meals | INR 65,000–95,000 | INR 3.9–5.7 lakh |
Books & Study Items | INR 10,000–15,000 | INR 60,000–90,000 |
Visa & Documentation | One-time + annual renewal, approx. INR 12,000–20,000 | INR 72,000–1.2 lakh |
Donation / Capitation | None | NIL |
Total Estimated | $37,000 USD | INR 31–32 lakh approx. |
Note: Monowara Sikder Medical College is a private institution, and its fee circular for international students is not widely published online. The figures above reflect what consultants and past-batch students commonly report, so the year-specific circular should be confirmed with a verified source before any payment is made. No donation or capitation charge is reported at any stage.
Why Monowara Sikder Medical College Deserves a Second Look
The reason why Monowara Sikder is overlooked is mostly due to its size, rurality, and that it is not one of the few institutes that consultants can easily promote. However, that makes it no less of a choice because the recognition route followed by it is the exact route followed by all authentic Bangladesh MBBS colleges.
Being situated in Bhedergonj means students will enjoy a relatively calm and uncluttered environment during the first two years of pre-clinical courses while still being close enough to Dhaka Division.
With the attached 250-bed hospital, students get a chance to be exposed to practical cases from the beginning of the program despite the fact that the number of beds is less than those of the big hospitals.
One thing worth stating upfront, since the institution is less marketed, is that it becomes more important to have a consultant or agent who can help you with your admission process if he has ties with the institution.
