Q1. Is Marks Medical College a government or private institution?
+It is a private medical college affiliated with the University of Dhaka.
Marks Medical College is another private college frequently recommended by Indian consultants because of its low total cost package, and it has been operational since 2011 from the premises of Mirpur-14 located within the confines of Dhaka city itself in contrast to some other private colleges lying far away from the capital city.
The college started off with an intake of about 50 MBBS students in 2011 and has increased its intake capacity as well as added a sister college, MARKS Dental College, in 2015, making it run two separate programs (medical and dental) at one campus.
It operates out of a modern academic building, about nine to ten storeys high at Mirpur-14, Dhaka, with department-wise designated rooms as well as adequate parking space—a relatively small, city-based campus as opposed to a large, rural-based campus.
The clinical training is conducted in the attached teaching hospital, where the students complete their internship during the sixth year after the five-year academic period, allowing the students to gain experience in a city hospital environment.
Being a private college with an affordable cost package, Marks is continuously promoted by Indian consultants as one of the low-cost colleges for Indian MBBS aspirants, although the total cost package may vary between sessions and even among consultants.
Unlike most public colleges, the fee structure of foreign students in private colleges is normally processed through the college registration and development fee procedure, and hence any fee quoted would have to be confirmed beforehand.
Here is the approximate cost breakdown for the 6-year program, based on current consultancy-reported figures:
Cost Item | Per Year (USD / INR approx.) | 6-Year Total (INR approx.) |
Tuition Fee | USD 6,000–7,000, approx. INR 5–5.9 lakh | INR 30–35 lakh |
Hostel Fee | Approx. INR 50,000–80,000 | INR 3–4.8 lakh |
Food & Meals | INR 65,000–1 lakh | INR 3.9–6 lakh |
Books & Study Items | INR 10,000–15,000 | INR 60,000–90,000 |
Development / Registration Fee | One-time, approx. INR 80,000–1.2 lakh | INR 80,000–1.2 lakh |
Donation / Capitation | None reported | NIL |
Total Estimated | $37,000 to $40,500 USD | INR 38–48 lakh approx. |
Note: Marks Medical College's package for foreign students has historically included a one-time development fee alongside annual tuition (reported at roughly USD 37,000–45,000 in total across past sessions, depending on the year and consultant). Food and hostel are often billed separately at actual cost. Since the exact figures shift by session, the year-specific circular should always be confirmed directly with the college or a verified agent before any payment.
Why Marks Medical College Deserves a Harder Look
Marks is often viewed as a budget alternative by many consultants, yet it does not make it less prestigiouit has the same University of Dhaka accreditation and BMDC approval as any other legitimate Bangladesh MBBS college should.
Since Marks is located within the limits of Dhaka city in the Mirpur-14 area, students will have access to urban transport and facilities and to the greater Dhaka medical community, rather than the secluded location of rural private colleges.
With the introduction of MARKS Dental College, which joined in 2015, the campus added another building block to its academic structure since its opening in 2011.
There is one point worth mentioning: because Marks is affordable and heavily marketed by many consultancies, fees for the same batch might differ considerably among agents, making the college circular more relevant for Marks than for colleges that offer only one official fee sheet.
