These disciplines provide students with the scientific knowledge required before progressing into advanced clinical education.
The curriculum follows an integrated competency-based educational model that combines lectures with anatomy dissections, laboratory practicals, simulation-based learning, problem-based learning (PBL), case-based discussions, digital learning resources, and interdisciplinary seminars. Students develop scientific reasoning, clinical decision-making, teamwork, communication skills, professionalism, and lifelong learning abilities throughout the program.
Clinical exposure begins early through communication workshops, physical examination training, simulation laboratories, patient interviews, and supervised hospital observations. This gradual introduction allows students to build clinical confidence before entering full-time hospital rotations.
Clinical education is conducted through Nanjing Medical University's extensive network of affiliated hospitals, including the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University (Jiangsu Province Hospital), the Second Affiliated Hospital, Children's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing Brain Hospital, and several specialized teaching hospitals across Jiangsu Province. During clinical rotations, students actively participate in ward rounds, outpatient clinics, operating theatres, emergency departments, multidisciplinary case discussions, diagnostic procedures, and supervised patient care. These experiences allow students to integrate theoretical knowledge with real-world clinical practice while developing professional competence.
The affiliated hospitals feature advanced medical technologies including robotic surgery systems, molecular diagnostic laboratories, precision medicine centres, transplantation units, cancer institutes, cardiovascular centres, advanced imaging facilities, intensive care units, and modern simulation centres. Students benefit from training within one of China's most technologically advanced healthcare systems.
