Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (often called Amrita University) is a major Deemed to be University with a national footprint and international recognition. Its story began with the establishment of its first institutions by the Mata Amritanandamayi Math (MAM), a charitable trust founded by spiritual leader Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma). The institution was granted Deemed to be University status by the UGC/Ministry of Education in 2003.
Its headquarters and largest campus is located in Coimbatore (Ettimadai), Tamil Nadu. However, it's a multi-campus university with other major campuses in Amritapuri (Kerala), Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi (home to its famous medical school), and Amaravati. Its mission blends modern, research-driven education with a strong emphasis on humanitarian values and social impact.

The Coimbatore campus is the university's main administrative and engineering hub.
Location: Situated in Ettimadai, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, nestled at the foothills of the Western Ghats, providing a scenic and spacious environment.
Campus Size & Vibe: It's a vast, sprawling campus (often cited as 400+ acres) that is modern, meticulously planned, and very green. The atmosphere is highly academic, research-oriented, and disciplined, reflecting its spiritual foundations.
Infrastructure & Facilities: As an IoE, the infrastructure is world-class:
Academic Blocks: Numerous state-of-the-art buildings house the different Schools (Engineering, Business, Arts & Sciences).
Central Library: A massive, technologically advanced central library with a vast collection of print volumes, digital subscriptions to top international journals (IEEE, ACM, Scopus, etc.), and extensive study spaces.
Advanced Laboratories: This is a major strength. Features cutting-edge labs for all engineering branches, including specialized research centers for AI, Cybersecurity, Wireless Networks, Computational Engineering, etc.
Technology: Fully Wi-Fi-enabled campus, high-performance computing facilities, smart classrooms, and extensive e-learning resources.
Auditoriums & Halls: Multiple large auditoriums and seminar halls equipped for international conferences.
Sports Complex: Excellent, comprehensive facilities for a wide range of indoor and outdoor sports, including Olympic-standard swimming pools, modern gyms, tracks, and numerous courts/fields.

Leading tertiary care hospital attached to the institution
This is a crucial point of distinction for Amrita.
Coimbatore Campus: This campus does not have the main Medical College (for MBBS) or the large super-specialty hospital. Its health-related programs are focused on areas like Biotechnology (within Engineering) or potentially allied health research. It has an on-campus health clinic for students.
Kochi (Kottayam) Campus: The university's world-renowned Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), which includes the School of Medicine (MBBS), School of Dentistry (BDS), College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, and the massive Amrita Hospital (a 1300+ bed super-specialty tertiary care hospital), is located in Kochi, Kerala.
State University Affordability
As a top-ranked Deemed University (IoE), Amrita's fees reflect its quality, infrastructure, and high rankings. Fees vary significantly by program and campus.
Residence on campus is typically mandatory, especially for undergraduate students at the Coimbatore campus.
Accommodation: Separate, well-maintained hostel blocks for boys and girls are available, offering rooms (AC/Non-AC, single to multiple sharing) to accommodate thousands of students.
Amenities: Hostels are generally modern, providing essential furniture, 24/7 security, power backup, Wi-Fi, common rooms, recreational facilities, study halls, gyms, laundry services (paid), housekeeping, and warden supervision. A strong emphasis is placed on a safe and disciplined environment.
Dining: Multiple large, hygienic mess halls and food courts cater to the diverse student body, offering varied cuisine options (South Indian, North Indian, vegetarian is prominent).
Cost: Hostel and mess fees represent a significant additional annual expense. Depending on AC/Non-AC, room sharing, and mess plan, expect costs to range roughly from ₹1,20,000 to ₹2,00,000 or more per year. Confirm the specific rates during admission.
Getting Through the Door:
AEEE (Amrita Entrance Examination - Engineering): This is the university's own national-level entrance exam for admission to its B.Tech programs across all campuses. Rank in AEEE is the primary determinant for admission and scholarship eligibility.
JEE (Main): JEE (Main) scores are also accepted for B.Tech admission (often for a specific quota of seats or as an alternative to AEEE).
Medical/Dental (Kochi Campus): Admission to MBBS/BDS/MD/MS/MDS is strictly based on qualifying ranks in NEET-UG or NEET-PG/MDS. As a Deemed University, seat allotment is done through the centralized counselling conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).
MBA: Admission is based on scores from national tests like CAT/XAT/MAT/CMAT/GMAT/GRE, followed by a Personal Interview (PI).
Other UG/PG Courses: Admission is typically based on merit in the qualifying examination (Class 12/Graduation) and/or Personal Interviews. Check the Amrita admissions website for specific program criteria.
Career Kickstart (Placements): Amrita University (especially the Coimbatore Engineering school) has an excellent and highly systematic placement record.
Industry Collaboration: Deep integration with a vast number of multinational and national companies, facilitated by a very active Corporate and Industry Relations (CIR) cell.
Training Focus: Rigorous pre-placement training, soft skill development, and technical workshops are integrated into the curriculum.
Recruiters: Attracts a huge number of top-tier recruiters, including major IT/Software giants (Microsoft, Amazon, Cisco, Intel, Oracle, Wipro, TCS, Cognizant, Infosys), Core Engineering companies, Analytics firms, Banks, and Startups.
Salary Potential: Amrita consistently reports impressive placement statistics (often 95%+ for engineering). Highest packages are frequently very high (often exceeding ₹40 LPA - ₹50 LPA or more for top tech roles). The average package for core B.Tech (CSE) and MBA graduates is very strong, typically landing in the ₹7 LPA to ₹10 LPA range or higher.
Amrita has a dedicated Directorate for International Relations and specific provisions for NRI/Foreign students.
