The faculty is located on the main campus of the University of the Basque Country.

• Infrastructure & Facilities:

• Academic Blocks: Features lecture halls, seminar rooms, and specialized facilities for medicine, nursing, and physiotherapy programs.

• Laboratories: Well-equipped labs for all basic and pre-clinical sciences.

Residential Life: The University offers limited dormitory accommodation on its campuses; many students rely on private rentals in nearby towns (Leioa, Getxo, or Bilbao).

Healthcare Pillar: Teaching Hospitals

Clinical training is conducted in the major public hospital network of the Basque Health Service.

• Flagship Hospitals: Clinical training is carried out in the major hospitals of the Basque Health Service (Osakidetza), primarily the Hospital Universitario Cruces and the Hospital Universitario de Basurto (both in Bilbao/Barakaldo area).

• Scale & Services: These are large multi-specialty, tertiary care referral centers for the entire Basque Country.

Educational Engine: Clinical years involve extensive clinical rotations across hospital departments, providing high-quality, hands-on experience within a highly decentralized and modern public health system.

Fee Structure and Costs

As a public university in Spain, fees are highly subsidized for Spanish and EU/EEA students.

Admissions Process: Spanish National System

• Getting Admitted (Medicine): Admission is highly competitive and is based on a national centralized scoring system.

• Language Requirement: Fluency in Spanish (Castilian) is mandatory, as the majority of instruction and all clinical interactions are conducted in Spanish.

• Selection Criteria: Selection is based on the Selectividad Score (EBAU/EvAU), which is weighted as follows:

• 60% from the Baccalaureate/High School GPA.

• 40% from the official University Entrance Examinations (EvAU/EBAU).

• Cut-off Score: Medicine consistently has one of the highest cut-off scores in Spain (typically above 13.0 out of 14.0 for General category).

• Application Process: Application is submitted through the centralized Basque Government Pre-registration System.

Career Pathways & Placements

• Career Path: Graduates receive the degree of Licenciado en Medicina, which is fully recognized across the EU/EEA.

• Post-Graduation: To practice medicine in Spain, graduates must pass the national competitive entrance exam, the MIR (Médico Interno Residente), for admission to specialty training (residency).

• Internship/Training: Clinical training is integrated throughout the 6-year program.
