The Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Oujda (FMPO), affiliated with Mohammed First University (Université Mohammed Premier - UMP), is a key public institution serving the eastern region of Morocco. Established in 2008, it is recognized for its modern approach to medical training and its role in improving healthcare accessibility in the Oriental region.
Established: 2008.
Location: BP 4867, Oujda University, Oujda, Morocco.
Programs: * Doctor of Medicine (MD): 6-year program.
Doctor of Pharmacy: 6-year program.

Note: Like most public medical schools in Morocco, French is the primary medium for science and clinical practice. However, basic Arabic is highly beneficial for communicating with patients in this region.
Accreditation: State-recognized degree, accredited by the Moroccan Ministry of Higher Education and listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS).
Facilities: The faculty is equipped with high-tech amphitheatres, specialized research labs, and a specialized medical library.
Medical Simulation Center: FMPO features a high-quality medical simulation center aimed at the initial training of general practitioners and specialists, allowing students to master clinical procedures in a controlled environment.
Student Body: The school hosts approximately 2,200 to 2,500 students across various medical and pharmaceutical cycles.
Leading tertiary care hospital attached to the institution
The faculty is closely integrated with the regional healthcare network:
CHU Mohammed VI Oujda: The primary teaching hospital, which is a massive, modern university hospital center providing high-level tertiary care.
Rotation Schedule: Clinical internships typically begin in the 3rd year. Students benefit from a wide exposure to regional health issues and specialized treatments at the CHU.
Regional Scope: Being the only medical faculty in the Oriental region, students encounter diverse clinical cases, including many related to border and regional healthcare challenges.
State University Affordability
As a public university, fees are very competitive compared to private institutions:
Moroccan Students: Tuition is free; students only pay nominal administrative/registration fees (approx. 500 MAD).
International Students (AMCI Track): Most international students from Africa and Asia join via the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI). Under this quota, tuition is free, and students may receive a small monthly stipend.
Self-Funded International Students: For those outside the AMCI quota, fees are generally around $1,000 to $1,500 USD per year (approx. 10,000 – 15,000 MAD), though these spots are limited and highly regulated.
Vibe: A traditional, safe, and family-oriented city located near the Algerian border. It has a slower pace compared to Casablanca or Rabat, making it ideal for students who prefer a focused study environment.
Climate: Mediterranean with continental influences; hot, dry summers and cool, crisp winters.
Cost of Living: Significantly lower than major Moroccan coastal cities. A total monthly budget of 3,500 – 5,000 MAD ($350 – $500 USD) usually provides a good quality of life.
Cité Universitaire (Public Dorms): Located on or near the UMP campus.
Cost: Extremely low (approx. 400–600 MAD per year), but priority is often given to domestic students from rural areas.
Private Housing: Oujda is one of the most affordable cities in Morocco for rent.
Shared Room: 1,200 – 2,200 MAD per month ($120 – $220 USD).
Studio Apartment: 2,000 – 3,500 MAD per month.
Dining: * University Canteens: Subsidized meals are available for cents.
Food Budget: A typical monthly budget for home cooking and occasional dining is 1,500 – 2,500 MAD.
National Contest: For Moroccan residents, admission depends on Baccalaureate grades followed by the Common National Entrance Exam in July.
International Admission: 1. Usually required to apply via the AMCI portal in your home country. 2. Secondary school diploma in a scientific stream (Biology, Chemistry, Physics). 3. A strong GPA (minimum "Mention Bien") is usually necessary for medical tracks.
NEET (For Indians): Mandatory for students intending to return to India to sit for the NExT/FMGE licensing exams.
