Established in 2021 (with the first MBBS batch commencing in 2025), Government Medical College Wayanad is a milestone in Kerala's healthcare, ensuring that every district in the state now has a government medical college. The institution was formed by upgrading the existing District Hospital at Mananthavady. It is affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), Thrissur, and is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

The college currently operates from a multi-purpose building integrated with the health services complex in Mananthavady, with a permanent 28-acre campus planned at Ambukuthi.

Note to Applicants: As the college is in its early stages of development, some permanent infrastructure is under construction. However, the high patient inflow at the hospital ensures excellent clinical learning from day one.
