Its primary role is as an affiliating university for a vast number of colleges (over 120 constituent and affiliated) spread across the districts of Patan, Mehsana, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, and Aravalli.

HNGU operates from its main campus in Patan.
Location: Situated in Patan, Gujarat.
Campus Size & Vibe: The campus is spread over 180+ acres, providing a spacious and academic environment. It serves as the central administrative hub for managing its large network of affiliated colleges and houses its on-campus postgraduate departments.
Infrastructure & Facilities:
Academic Departments: Dedicated buildings for its postgraduate departments (e.g., Chemistry, Physics, Life Sciences, Commerce, Management, Education, Social Sciences, Arts).
Central Library: A well-stocked library with a large collection of books, journals, and digital resources to support PG students and research scholars.
Laboratories: Equipped labs for practical work in various science disciplines (Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Computer Science) offered at the PG level.
Learning Spaces: Modern classrooms, lecture halls, and seminar rooms.
Residential Life: Hostel facilities are available on campus for both boys and girls.
Amenities: Administrative offices, Health Centre, canteens, sports facilities (gymnasium, grounds), bank/ATM.
Leading tertiary care hospital attached to the institution
It's important to understand HNGU's role in health education; it is purely affiliating.
No Constituent Medical College: HNGU does not have its own constituent Medical College offering the MBBS degree, nor does it operate its own large general teaching hospital for this purpose.
Affiliation Role: The university acts as the affiliating university for health science colleges within its jurisdiction. This includes:
Medical: Several Government Medical Education and Research Society (GMERS) colleges, such as GMERS Medical College, Dharpur (Patan), GMERS Medical College, Vadnagar (Mehsana), GMERS Medical College, Hadiyol (Himmatnagar), and the private Banas Medical College and Research Institute, Palanpur.
Dental, AYUSH, Nursing: Numerous other government and private colleges offering BDS, BAMS, BHMS, B.Sc Nursing, BPT, etc., in the North Gujarat region are affiliated with HNGU.
Health-Related Programs (On Campus): The university's own campus offers strong programs in Life Sciences (Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biotechnology) and Chemistry, but not direct clinical (MBBS) training.
State University Affordability
Being a state university, HNGU's fees for its regular, government-aided programs on campus are extremely affordable. Self-financed courses (like MBA, M.Sc-IT, or courses in private affiliated colleges) have higher fees.
HNGU provides residential facilities for students enrolled in its on-campus (mostly PG) programs.
Availability: Yes, the university provides separate hostel facilities for boys and girls on its main campus, with a large capacity (e.g., PG Boys Hostel ~190, UG Boys ~215, ST Boys ~200; 3 Girls Hostels ~300+).
Facilities: Hostels offer basic furnished accommodation (typically 2, 3, or 4-sharing rooms), common rooms, dining halls (messes), 24/7 security, warden supervision, and essential amenities like RO water, water heaters, and access to sports/computer labs.
Mess System: Each hostel typically operates its own mess, providing regular meals.
Cost: As a state university, the hostel and mess fees are extremely economical. Expect annual hostel fees (rent, electricity) to be very low (e.g., ~ ₹1,500 - ₹2,500 per semester). Mess charges are separate and paid monthly based on actual expenses (e.g., ~₹3,000 - ₹4,000 per month).
Getting Admitted:
UG (BA/BSc/BCom etc. in Affiliated Colleges): Admission to most general UG courses in colleges affiliated with HNGU is managed through the Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS) portal, a centralized, merit-based process based on Class 12 marks.
PG (MA/MSc/MCom on Campus): Admission to most on-campus postgraduate programs is also typically managed via the GCAS portal, based on merit in the qualifying Bachelor's degree.
MBBS / BDS / AYUSH / BPT / B.Sc Nursing (Affiliated): Admission is strictly based on rank in NEET-UG. Seat allotment for all quotas (Govt, Mgmt, NRI) is handled by the Admission Committee for Professional Undergraduate Medical Educational Courses (ACPUGMEC), Gujarat.
B.Tech (Affiliated): Admission to affiliated engineering colleges is based on JEE (Main) scores and/or GUJCET (Gujarat Common Entrance Test), followed by ACPC (Admission Committee for Professional Courses) counselling.
MBA / MCA (On Campus): Admission is based on CMAT scores, followed by centralized counselling (ACPC).
B.Ed: Admission is through the state's centralized B.Ed admission process.
Ph.D.: Admission involves a University Entrance Test (exempt for NET/JRF/SET qualified candidates) followed by interviews.
Always check the official HNGU admission notifications and the relevant Gujarat state admission portals (GCAS, ACPC, ACPUGMEC).
Career Support (Placements):
Focus: HNGU has a University Placement Cell. For many graduates, career paths involve state government jobs (GPSC, Banking), teaching positions (B.Ed/NET/SET), local entrepreneurship (North Gujarat has strong industrial/dairy/pharma pockets), or further studies.
Campus Placements: Direct campus placements are more relevant for the on-campus MBA, MCA, M.Sc programs, and professional courses in affiliated colleges (Engineering, Pharmacy).
Recruiters: Recruiters often include IT service companies (TCS, Wipro, Infosys, HCL), banks (HDFC, ICICI, Axis), pharmaceutical firms, and local/regional industries.
Outcomes: Placement success varies. The average package for professional courses like MBA is generally modest, potentially in the ₹2.5 LPA to ₹4.5 LPA range. The university plays a critical role in providing skilled manpower for the North Gujarat region.
Provisions for NRI/Foreign Nationals exist, primarily through affiliated colleges and specific university policies.
