The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Linköping University (LiU) is one of Sweden’s most innovative medical schools. It is famous for introducing Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Interprofessional Learning (IPL) to Scandinavia, where students from different health professions (medicine, nursing, physiotherapy) train together to prepare for real-world hospital teams.
Established: 1970; recognized as a full university in 1975.
Academic Philosophy: Linköping is the pioneer of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in Sweden. Instead of traditional lectures, students work in small groups to solve clinical cases.
Interprofessional Learning (IPL): Students from various medical disciplines work together in the "Student-led training ward," a unique model where they manage real patients under supervision.
Language:
Medicine (Läkare): Taught in Swedish (6-year program).
English-taught degrees: Includes the BSc in Experimental and Industrial Biomedicine and Master's in Medical Bioscience and Biomedical Engineering.
Campus US (University Hospital Campus): This is the dedicated medical campus, integrated directly with the Linköping University Hospital. It is located within walking distance of the city center.
Clinicum: A state-of-the-art Clinical Training Centre where students practice procedures (from taking blood pressure to emergency surgeries) using high-fidelity mannequins and simulation technology.
Växthuset (The Greenhouse): A key student building on Campus US featuring modern auditoriums, study areas, and student services with a unique glass facade.
Leading tertiary care hospital attached to the institution
Status: A highly ranked hospital known for providing "highly specialized care" for the entire Southeast region of Sweden.
Specialties: Nationally renowned for its Burn Center, Hand and Plastic Surgery, and Neurosurgery.
Research Hub: Home to the Center for Medical Image Science and Visualization (CMIV), which is a world leader in digital pathology and 3D medical imaging.
State University Affordability
EU/EEA/Swiss Citizens: No tuition fees.
Non-EU International Students:
BSc Experimental & Industrial Biomedicine: Approximately SEK 150,000 per year.
Master’s Programmes: Typically range from SEK 140,000 to 165,000 per year.
Medical Degree (if non-EU): Fees for clinical programs are higher, often exceeding SEK 250,000 per year.

Vibe: Linköping is known as "The City of Ideas." It is a high-tech hub (home to SAAB Aerospace) but retains a friendly, small-town atmosphere.
Nature: The city is surrounded by beautiful oak woodlands and the Göta Canal, perfect for outdoor activities.
Transport: Bicycles are the primary mode of transport. LiU also provides a free shuttle bus (Campusbussen) for students traveling between the Linköping and Norrköping campuses.

NRI Seats: Sweden does not have an NRI Quota or Management Quota. Unlike India, admission is strictly merit-based through the national portal.
Admission Path:
Medical Degree: Requires C1 Swedish (TISUS) and competitive high school grades in science subjects.
Biomedicine/Masters: Requires a relevant degree and English proficiency (IELTS 6.5+).
Scholarships: The LiU International Scholarship offers 25–50% tuition waivers for non-EU students with high academic standing (usually a GPA equivalent to 80% or above).
