Shri Govind Guru University (SGGU) is a public State University located in Godhra, Gujarat. Established by the Government of Gujarat in 2015 (vide Gujarat Act No. 24/2015), its creation was a significant move to cater to the higher education needs of the eastern tribal belt of Gujarat.
Its primary function is as an affiliating university. It has a vast jurisdiction covering five districts: Panchmahals, Dahod, Mahisagar, Chhota Udepur, and Vadodara (Rural). It provides academic governance and awards degrees to a very large number of colleges (over 280 affiliated colleges as of 2024) within these districts, serving over 1.25 lakh students. Infrastructure & Facilities:
Academic Departments: The campus has buildings for its PG departments (e.g., Chemistry, Physics, Microbiology, Sociology, History, Commerce, Management, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Sanskrit).
Library: A central library facility to support the on-campus PG students and research scholars, with access to books, journals, and e-resources.
Laboratories: Equipped labs for the science departments (Chemistry, Physics, Microbiology) running on campus.
Learning Spaces: Modern classrooms, lecture halls, and seminar rooms for PG teaching.
Residential Facilities: Hostel facilities are available on campus for students.

Leading tertiary care hospital attached to the institution
It is important to understand SGGU's role in health education; it is purely affiliating.
No Constituent Medical College: Shri Govind Guru University does not have its own constituent Medical College offering the MBBS degree, nor does it operate its own large general teaching hospital for this purpose.
Affiliation Role: The university acts as the affiliating university for health science colleges within its jurisdiction. This includes:
Medical: Zydus Medical College and Hospital, Dahod (a Govt. Society-run college) is affiliated with SGGU for its MBBS degree.
Physiotherapy/Nursing/Allied Health: Numerous private colleges offering BPT, B.Sc Nursing, GNM, ANM, BMLT, etc., in the five districts are affiliated with SGGU.
Health Centre: Provides basic medical support to the campus community.
State University Affordability
Being a state university, SGGU's fees for its regular, government-aided programs on campus are extremely affordable. Fees in its numerous affiliated colleges vary dramatically, especially between government/aided and self-financed private colleges.
SGGU provides residential facilities, primarily for students enrolled in its on-campus postgraduate programs.
Availability: Yes, the university provides separate hostel facilities for boys and girls on its main campus.
Facilities: Hostels offer basic furnished accommodation (likely shared rooms), common rooms, dining halls (messes), security, warden supervision, and essential amenities.
Mess System: Hostels typically operate their own mess providing regular meals.
Cost: As a state university, the combined cost for hostel accommodation and basic mess food is generally very economical. Expect annual charges to be highly affordable (Needs precise confirmation from the university's hostel administration).
Getting Admitted:
UG (BA/BSc/BCom etc. in Affiliated Colleges): Admission to most general UG courses in colleges affiliated with SGGU is managed through the Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS) portal, a centralized, merit-based process based on Class 12 marks.
PG (MA/MSc/MCom on Campus): Admission to on-campus postgraduate programs is also typically managed via the GCAS portal, based on merit in the qualifying Bachelor's degree.
MBBS / BDS / AYUSH (Affiliated): Admission is strictly based on rank in the NEET-UG examination, followed by centralized state counselling conducted by the Admission Committee for Professional Undergraduate Medical Educational Courses (ACPUGMEC), Gujarat.
B.Tech (Affiliated): Admission to affiliated engineering colleges is based on JEE (Main) scores and/or GUJCET (Gujarat Common Entrance Test), followed by ACPC (Admission Committee for Professional Courses) counselling.
MBA (On Campus): Admission is likely based on CMAT scores, followed by university-level counselling.
B.Ed: Admission is through the state's centralized B.Ed admission process.
Always check the official SGGU admission notifications and the relevant Gujarat state admission portals (GCAS, ACPC, ACPUGMEC).
Career Support (Placements):
Focus: SGGU has a placement cell. For the vast majority of graduates from its affiliated arts, science, and commerce colleges, career paths often involve state government jobs (GPSC, Banking), teaching positions (B.Ed/NET/SET), local entrepreneurship, or further studies.
Campus Placements: Direct campus placements are more relevant for the on-campus MBA program and professional courses in affiliated colleges (Engineering, Pharmacy, Nursing). Recruiters would likely include regional companies, banks (ICICI, Bajaj Finance), IT firms, pharmaceutical companies, and hospitals.
Outcomes: Placement success varies. Average packages for MBA or affiliated engineering colleges are generally modest, potentially in the ₹2.5 LPA to ₹4.5 LPA range. The university's primary role is massification of higher education in the Eastern Gujarat belt.
As a regional State University, SGGU's processes are heavily focused on domestic students.
