Established in 1875 as the Dhaka Medical School and upgraded to a medical college in 1962, Sir Salimullah Medical College (SSMC) is one of Bangladesh's oldest and most prestigious government medical institutions. Located on the banks of the Buriganga River in Old Dhaka, the college is named after Nawab Sir Salimullah, a key philanthropist of the region. It is celebrated for its deep historical roots, high academic standards, and the Mitford Hospital, which serves as its primary teaching facility.
The campus covers approximately 2.8 acres and is a blend of historical colonial architecture and modern medical facilities.
