• Flagship Hospital: The constituent AIIMS Guwahati Hospital is a multi-specialty, tertiary care center.

• Scale & Services: The hospital is planned to be a major referral center for the entire North-East region.

• Capacity: A 750-bed hospital (in its final phase).

• Services: Offers comprehensive healthcare across numerous specialties and super-specialties (e.g., General Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, OBG, Paediatrics, Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Urology, Oncology). It features 24x7 Emergency & Trauma services, advanced Critical Care units (ICU, NICU, PICU), modular Operation Theatres, a 24x7 Blood Bank, and high-end diagnostic services (MRI, CT, etc.).

Campus Living: Hostel Facilities

Residence on campus is typically mandatory for undergraduate students at AIIMS institutions.

• Accommodation: AIIMS Guwahati provides separate, newly constructed hostel blocks for boys and girls (UGs, PGs, Interns). Rooms are fully furnished, typically double-seater for UG students.

• Amenities: Hostels are well-maintained with essential furniture (bed, study table, chair, almirah), 24/7 security, power backup, common rooms (with TV), RO water coolers, hot water (geysers), and laundry facilities (washing machines).

• Dining: Mess facilities are compulsory for all hostellers. The mess is run by a student committee and provides 4 meals (breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner) with a varied menu.

• Cost: Hostel and mess fees are additional to the tuition fees but are also highly economical.

• Hostel Fee (Annual): Hostel rent is nominal (e.g., ~₹990 per year). Other annual charges (pot fund, electricity, gym, etc.) are a few thousand rupees.

• Mess Charges (Monthly): This is the main recurring cost, paid monthly based on actual expenses. It is typically around ~₹3,500 - ₹4,500 per month.

• Security Deposits: One-time refundable deposits for the hostel (~₹1,000) and mess (~₹500) are required.

Admissions Process (National Level Only)

Admission to AIIMS Guwahati is not handled by the Assam state counselling (DME). It is done exclusively through national-level counselling.

• MBBS: Admission is strictly based on rank obtained in the NEET-UG examination. Counselling and seat allotment for 100% of seats are conducted centrally by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), DGHS, Govt. of India under the 'AIIMS' category.

• MD / MS: Admission is strictly based on rank obtained in the Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test (INI-CET), conducted by AIIMS Delhi.

• B.Sc (Hons) Nursing: Admission is based on the AIIMS B.Sc Nursing Entrance Examination conducted annually by AIIMS Delhi, followed by centralized counselling.

• Ph.D.: Admission is based on the AIIMS Ph.D. Entrance Examination.

Career Pathways & Placements

• Career Path: Graduates from AIIMS Guwahati are highly respected.

• Clinical Graduates (MBBS/MD): After completing the mandatory 1-year internship (with a stipend), graduates are highly competitive for PG seats (via INI-CET/NEET-PG). They are sought after by premier government/private hospitals or may join AIIMS institutions as faculty/senior residents.
