The Faculty of Health Sciences at Universitat Jaume I (UJI) is a modern and highly integrated center for medical education located in Castellón de la Plana, Spain. Founded relatively recently compared to other Spanish medical schools, it has quickly gained a reputation for its cutting-edge infrastructure and a student-centered approach that focuses on small-group learning and early clinical exposure.
The faculty is housed in a dedicated complex on the western side of the Riu Sec Campus, creating a quiet, green, and highly scientific environment for its students.
The health sciences buildings at UJI are among the most energy-efficient and technologically advanced in Spain.
Simulation and Skills Lab: This is a core part of the UJI experience. The lab includes high-fidelity mannequins and simulated consultation rooms where students practice clinical interviews, physical exams, and emergency procedures from the very first years.
Integrated Research Labs: The faculty is home to research groups focusing on neuroscience, skin biology, and public health. Students have direct access to these researchers through elective modules and final degree projects.
The "Jardí dels Sentits": The health buildings are organized around this "Garden of the Senses," providing a calm outdoor space for study and mental well-being, which the university emphasizes as part of its "Healthy University" initiative.
Leading tertiary care hospital attached to the institution
UJI works in close partnership with the public health system of the Generalitat Valenciana. Students rotate through a network of hospitals in the province of Castellón.
Hospital General Universitari de Castelló (HGUCS): The primary teaching hospital and the province's main reference center for high-complexity cases.
Hospital Provincial de Castelló: A specialized center known for its leadership in oncology, mental health, and ophthalmology.
Hospital de la Plana (Vila-real): A modern facility that provides a more community-focused clinical environment for rotations.
Hospital de Vinaròs: Offers students a view of healthcare delivery in a more decentralized, regional setting.
State University Affordability
As a public university in the Valencian Community, tuition is based on the credit rate set by the regional government.
Note: Castellón is significantly more affordable than nearby Valencia or Barcelona. Rent for a private room in a shared flat typically ranges from €200 to €350 per month.
The campus is designed for a pedestrian-friendly lifestyle, with most services located within a 10-minute walk.
Accommodation:
Residència Universitària Campus: Located directly on campus, offering single rooms with kitchens.
Shared Flats: Most students live in the area between the campus and the city center (walking distance or a short tram ride).
Dining:
The Cafeteria de la Facultat de Salut is known for being one of the best on campus, offering healthy Mediterranean menus for students for approximately €6.50 – €8.00.
Entry into Medicine at UJI is one of the most competitive paths in the region.
Cut-off Score: The "Nota de Corte" for Medicine is extremely high, usually hovering around 13.2 to 13.4 out of 14.0.
UNEDasiss: If you are applying from outside the Spanish school system, you must process your validation through UNEDasiss.
PCE Exams: To be competitive, it is necessary to take Specific Competency Tests (PCE) in Biology and Chemistry.
Language: Classes are taught in a mix of Spanish and Valencian. Clinical interactions in the hospital will require a B2/C1 level of Spanish.
