Professional Orientation: The university is designed with a "professionalization" mission, meaning curricula are tightly aligned with the current healthcare needs of West Africa.

International Quotas: Unlike many other regional schools, UIDT has a specific quota-based system for international students (particularly from neighboring West African and Maghreb countries), managed through a dedicated entrance test.

Multidisciplinary Environment: The faculty doesn't just train doctors; it also houses elite programs in Pharmacy and Nursing and Obstetrical Sciences, encouraging inter-professional collaboration from year one.

Thiès Regional Hospital: The primary training ground for clinical rotations. It is a major tertiary facility serving the entire Thiès region.

Health Center Network: Students are frequently dispatched to rural and semi-urban health centers to gain experience in community health and primary care, a hallmark of Senegalese medical training.

Clinical Cycle: Practical hospital stages begin in the 3rd year. By the 6th and 7th years, students function as "internes," taking on significant responsibilities in patient management and emergency care.

Vibe: Known as the "City of Two Rails," it is a calm, tree-lined city that serves as a crossroads for the country. It is much less congested than Dakar and offers a focused study environment.

Safety: Very safe for students. The local culture is deeply hospitable (Teranga).

Connectivity: Located about 70 km from Dakar. It is very close to the Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS) (approx. 30–40 minutes by car).

Accommodations: The university offers limited space in campus dormitories (Cités Universitaires).

• Campus Housing: Highly affordable, but strictly competitive (approx. $10–$20 USD/month).

• Private Housing in Thiès: Much more affordable than Dakar. A room in a shared apartment costs approx. 50,000 – 100,000 FCFA/month (~$80 – $160 USD).

Monthly Budget: A student can live comfortably in Thiès on $250 – $400 USD per month, covering food, transport, and utilities.

Academic: High School Diploma (Baccalauréat) in Science with high honors (S1 or S2 series).

International Test: Admission for foreign students is not automatic. You must pass an Entrance Test usually held in late September.

• Certified copy of the Baccalauréat certificate.

• Birth certificate and Police Clearance (Extrait de casier judiciaire).

• Passport copy and medical fitness certificate.
